5th New Zealand Chinese Network Spring Festival Gala 新西兰华人网络春晚

On February 2nd, 2025 (the fifth day of the Lunar New Year), Boya Zheng was invited to perform at the 5th New Zealand Chinese Network Spring Festival Gala. This event was jointly organised by the New Zealand Pacific Cultural and Arts Development Association and the New Zealand New Chinese Cultural Exchange Association. Distinguished guests included His Excellency Wang Xiaolong, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to New Zealand, the Cook Islands, and Niue; Rt. Hon. Christopher Luxon, Prime Minister of New Zealand; Consul General Chen Shijie from the Consulate General of China in Auckland; Consul General He Ying from the Consulate General of China in Christchurch; Rt. Hon. Chris Hipkins, Leader of the New Zealand Labour Party and former Prime Minister of New Zealand; Hon. Jenny Salesa, New Zealand Labour Party Member of Parliament; mayors from various New Zealand cities; overseas Chinese associations, government offices, and other guest representatives from multiple provinces and cities in China. These leaders, via the online Spring Festival Gala, sent warm Lunar New Year greetings to global audiences.

The Spring Festival Gala, lasting over three hours, brought together artists and cultural workers from both China and New Zealand, featuring a wide array of performances such as songs, dances, instrumental music, orchestral music, wind and percussion instruments, acrobatics, magic, crosstalk, ancient book recitation, and poetic paintings, creating a fascinating audiovisual feast full of festive spirit.

As a treasure of China’s 5,000-year civilisation, the guzheng has always held a prominent place in the promotion of Chinese traditional culture. During the gala, Boya Guzheng performed Bu Bu Gao (Step by Step Higher) to send New Year wishes to global viewers. This popular classic, with its lively and upbeat melody and progressively building rhythm, embodies a joyful and prosperous atmosphere. Boya Guzheng's performance balanced both delicate and vigorous expressions, inheriting traditional charm while showcasing youthful energy, adding a strong festive touch to the entire event. The sound of the guzheng echoed beautifully, lingering in the air, as if transporting the audience through time and space, immersing them in the unique charm of Chinese traditional music.

In this moment of renewal and new beginnings, we also take this opportunity to send our sincerest blessings for the Year of the Snake: may the new year be as agile as the snake, quick-witted and smart, filled with lasting good fortune, health, and success!
