Lunar New Year Family Fun Day 新春家庭同乐日演出

On the 1st of February 2020, the Chinese New Year Family Fun Day, hosted by Westfield St Lukes Shopping Centre and organised by the New Zealand Pacific Culture and Arts Exchange Centre, was held at the St Lukes Mall. The event was bustling with an endless stream of visitors. The New Zealand Pacific Culture and Arts Exchange Centre and Chairman Zhiyun He stated that the Chinese New Year has become an indispensable celebration in the New Zealand community. As the Spring Festival approaches each year, various organisations, including the Auckland City Council, businesses, and communities, host events filled with festive atmosphere, truly reflecting New Zealand's multiculturalism. Through participating in Chinese New Year celebrations, New Zealanders can learn about the forms and styles of the festivities and appreciate the profound traditional cultural arts of China. Zheng’s Music Studio was honoured to be invited to this event, bringing performances of a traditional Chinese instrument to a wide New Zealand audience.

In this performance, Zheng’s Music Studio specially selected five classic pieces rich in Chinese characteristics, hoping to showcase the charm of traditional Chinese music to New Zealanders and to resonate with the Chinese compatriots in New Zealand with the sounds from their homeland. As the finishing act of the event, the students from the studio kicked off with the lively Spring Festival Overture, followed by Colourful Clouds Chasing the Moon, Blue and White Porcelain, A Laugh in the Sea, and Jasmine Flower. The studio's founder, Lin Zheng, remarked, "These five pieces are well-known and beloved in China. We chose them to add festive cheer to the Spring Festival and because they carry the shared memories of our compatriots. We hope the audience enjoys the music and can also teach these songs to their children, passing down the stories behind the melodies to the next generation."

The past month has been a period of worry and anxiety for Chinese people, both at home and abroad. The entire team of Zheng’s Music Studio salutes all the medical staff on the front lines of the pandemic and wishes all the patients fighting the virus a speedy recovery. The first month of 2020 is behind us. As we enter February, let us all look forward to the early arrival of spring, with blooming branches, a safe and sound land, and peace for all.
