Caring for the Disabled Campaign
On the 13th of April 2019, Zheng’s Music Studio was honoured to be invited to participate in the first large-scale event celebrating and supporting the disabled, themed ‘Celebrating a Good Life and Caring for Vulnerable Groups.’ This event was initiated by the Auckland City Council with strong support from the Howick Local Board. It invited caring individuals from all sectors of society to participate, with the Minister for Social Development and Disability Issues, the Associate Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage, Hon Carmel Sepuloni, Auckland City Council expert advisor Li Yongjie, and Howick Local Board officials attending and delivering speeches.
During the event, a performance of Harvest Drums, played by Lin Zheng and her students, received enthusiastic applause from the audience. The piece Harvest Drums is based on the traditional melodies of Shandong's Liuqin opera, featuring the rich style of Shandong folk music. The lively drumbeats and beautiful melodies depict a joyful scene of people celebrating a bountiful harvest. Lin Zheng expressed, "I hope this bright and cheerful piece not only allows everyone to experience the charm of traditional Chinese music culture but also, through music—a universal medium—helps us join with vulnerable groups to celebrate a good life together."
